Eliphas Levi III

You were born on Elient 12, 1250, in the City of Brasov. Brasov is the capital of Darkcrest. Darkcrest is one of the Northern-most landmasses in all of Etheos. You parents Eliphas Levi II and Maerle raised you in the slums of Brasov known as Beggar’s Row. Beggar’s Row was a long street that consisted of beggars that lined the main street. Those that entered into Brasov from the land gates had to traverse Beggar’s Row before getting to the nicer areas. Your father Eliphas Levi II (EL2), was of somewhat renown in the slums of Brasov for rescuing a daughter of Brasov for a horde of goblins. When EL2 was in his early twenties he went out in search of this lost girl all alone. Tracked and found the goblin lair deep in a mineshaft a mile from town and single handedly defeated the goblins and rescued the missing girl. An elf woman named Neia Lonelis. When Neia was safely returned to her parents in Brasov, word quickly spread amongst the common folk that EL2 was a hero. This adventure of EL2 was 5 years before you were born. Fast forward to when you were 5 years old. EL2’s fame has lost its shine as its been 10 years since that accomplishment. EL2 missed that feeling of admiration he once got. One day, on Uktar 15, 1255, EL2 say goodbye to Maerle and their son EL3, in search of treasure that would bring him back to fame and the family out of poverty. Your father left you and your mother 19 years ago. EL2 would sometimes send your mother letters, telling her of the grand adventures he was having and assuring her that he was close to finding the big one. He was hopeful to finish up and come home soon. Some letters even contained a small amount of coin to “prove” his truth. You growing up never knew these letters existed. Your mother, Maerle, was a seamstress who worked countless hours. Often leaving you to fend for yourself. This led to some begging and thievery. However, you learned good life lessons, and how to read people. You were extremely intelligent for an uneducated child. The time that you got to spend with your mother, she tried to teach you the basics of reading and writing. Thankfully due to your advanced intelligence, you were able to take that starting knowledge and teach yourself rather quickly everything you needed to know about reading and writing. When you were not begging or attempting to steal to survive, your free time was spent reading anything you could find. You enjoyed the act of reading. The idea that thoughts in your head could be transferred to someone else through sheer sight intrigued you. When there was coin to be spent, your mother would send you to Anverth’s General Goods, a modest shop set up in Beggar’s Row, that should many things households needed. The Owner Anverth Scavir, you knew to be a nice gnomish fellow who would often inquire about the health of your mother. Very personable guy. One day in your late teens, on a trip into Anverth’s General Goods, you met a Tiefling named Abraxis, he seemed to be new help that Anverth had hired to work in his store. For the next 6 years, as you visited Anverth’s General Goods, you would often see Abraxis there working. You and Abraxis become good acquaintances, never best friends, but would often strike up conversation or share the going on’s of each life with one another. In Hammer 1274, you found a stash under a floorboard in your house, that contained all the old letters your father had sent to your mother. She had hid these letters from you. You also found a book you hadn’t seen before. It had writing that you could literally read, but didn’t seem intelligible at first glance. You would come to know this book as a spellbook. You also found a coin pouch containing nearly 50 GP. You confronted your mother that night. She defended herself by telling you that she was protecting you from your derelict dreamer father. She didn’t want you to get hurt on the count of him. Not again. The money that was sent over the years wasn’t spent, instead she saved it all up and planned to give it to EL3 when he was older. You spend the next 4 months practicing and studying the spellbook you found, using some of the coin you found on magical components for your training. You picked up this study exceedingly fast. In mere months, you could do what would take most wizards years of study. In Tarsakh, you receive a letter, addressed from your father detailing a Jungle named Chult as the latest location of his adventure. He says that he is truly on the cusp of a great and vast treasure somewhere deep in the Jungles. He is staying in a place called Port Nyanzaru while he is launching his expedition. Over the next week, you research as much as you can about the Chultan Jungle. You learn that it is one of the last fully unexplored areas in Etheos. The Jungle is considered dangerous and outright deadly. You also find out that Port Nyanzaru is the only City in all of the Chult peninsula. You eventually decide you are going to take the rest of the coin you found and find a way to meet up with your father. Your new found abilities as a wizard could help him achieve his treasure sooner, so that he could reunite with the family as he always promised. You tell your plan to your mother, who of course, protests, but you decide you need to do this anyway. You first decide to go to Anverth’s General Goods to stock up on travel supplies before your trip, on your way there you bump into Abraxis, the tiefling who worked for Anverth. Abraxis, looking shaken, tells you that Anverth had been murdered the night before. He also tells you that he is leaving town to try and track down the killer in the City of Di’Rune. Di’Rune is the capital of Decastar Kingdom. You know from your reading and study, that Decaster is much closer to Chult that Darkcrest After your discussion with Abraxis, you realize this is a step in the right direction, also, as you have not been an adventurer yet in this point of your life, having somebody you know - even if they are an acquaintance, is comforting. You follow the lead of Abraxis and use the coin you have to buy passage to Di’Rune aboard The Wind Runner - a ship set to leave Brasov for Di’Rune tomorrow morning.
