Overview & Creation

Insert fluff text about Chaos Domain here.

At each indicated cleric level, you add the listed spells to your spells prepared. See bottom of the block for the spell list.

Class Features

Creative Outlet

When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain proficiency with your choice of one of these: painter's supplies, any one musical instrument, or the Performance skill.

You can use any kind of artistic tool, such as a paintbrush, guitar, or microphone, as your spellcasting focus.

Also, you learn the prestidigitation cantrip and one additional cantrip of your choice from the bard spell list. For you, these cantrips count as cleric cantrips.

Unstable Realms

Starting at 1st level, using the power of your faith in Chaos causes a bit of her realm to seep into the world around you and creates some unpredictable effects.

Various effects from your Domain features will add Chaos Counters to you and ask you to roll for an effect on the Chaos Rift Effects table. The Chaos Counters affect the intensity of the Chaos Rift effects in multiple ways as shown on the table. When you roll for an effect on the Chaos Rift Effects table, you roll a number of d6's equal to your number of Chaos Counters to a maximum of 5d6, meaning that you will be more likely to reach the more disruptive effects lower in the table when you have more Chaos Counters. You can keep the result of the roll a secret from other players until the effect takes place. Chaos Counters are removed when you complete a long rest.

Each time you cast a spell from your Chaos Domain spell list, roll 1d20. If the number rolled is less than 10 + your number of Chaos Counters, add one Chaos Counter, roll for an effect on the Chaos Rift Effect table, and trigger that effect targeting yourself. You can attempt to resist the chaos by adding your Wisdom Save modifier to the roll.

Channel Divinity: Call the Chaos

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to invoke the power of the chaos realm more directly, and hopefully to your advantage.

As an action, you add one Chaos Counter and roll on the Chaos Rift Effects table, but you don't create that effect immediately. You can hold that effect for up to 1 minute or until you lose your concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell). During that time, you can end this effect and use your reaction whenever a creature you can see makes an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, after you see the result. The target rolls an additional d20 and you choose whether it uses the new or the original roll. Then, the Chaos Rift Effect that you were holding triggers, using your target as the target of its effects. If you don't use this reaction for the duration, the Chaos Rift Effect doesn't trigger. If your concentration is broken before then, the Chaos Rift Effect is triggered with you as the target.

Bemuse

At 6th level, you become better at using the creative inspiration that your faith bestows to you to cast your spells in a more dazzling way. Whether you deliver them with music, dance, or paint them into reality as with a brush, you are sure to sway your Lady of Chaos to make the spell more powerful... or at least confuse your opponents to make them vulnerable.

When you cast a spell that uses an action or bonus action and causes targets to make a Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom saving throw, you can also spend your action or bonus action (whichever the spell didn't use) to give all targets disadvantage on the save. You can also use this feature when you use the reaction from Chanel Divinity: Call the Chaos and make targets subject to a Chaos Rift Effect that forces them to make a Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom saving throw, giving all targets disadvantage on the save.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with divine energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an extra 1d8 force damage to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8 .

Blessed Strikes

8th-level cleric optional feature, which replaces the Divine Strike feature

You are blessed with divine might in battle. When a creature takes damage from one of your cantrips or weapon attacks, you can also deal 1d8 force damage to that creature. Once you deal this damage, you can't use this feature again until the start of your next turn.

Herald of Turmoil

Starting at 17th level, the aura of the chaos realm flickers around you always, and reality falters at your will. Whenever you trigger a Chaos Rift Effect by casting a spell or with your reaction when using Channel Divinity: Call the Chaos (NOT when the effect is triggered on you from losing concentration on Channel Divinity: Call the Chaos), you can alter the effect in one or both of these ways:

  • You can add an additional Chaos Counter and reroll on the Chaos Rift Effect table, and you must use the new result.
  • You can choose a different target for the effect, which must be a creature that you can see within 30 feet of the original target.

Additionally, when you roll initiative and have no uses of Channel Divinity left, you regain one use. That Channel Divinity use can only be used for Channel Divinity: Call the Chaos, and is removed if not used before you leave initiative.
