Overview & Creation

A class built specifically at the request of Ben, not necessarily with game balance in mind. Will eventually be balanced and adapted into a dedicated alchemist class.

Class Features

Arcane Ovens In order to bake bread at a rapid rate, you have learned to call upon the arcane to summon magical ovens. As a bonus action, you can summon an oven within 5ft of you. These ovens will collapse if they take any form of damage or are forced to move from the space they were summoned to. Ovens will last indefinitely as long as they are within 120ft of the baker, otherwise they will disappear. These ovens are used by the baker to create all forms of bread available to them.   Most recipes, unless otherwise specified, rapidly lose their effectiveness over the span of one round after they are done baking. "Casting" the spell contained causes the bread to inherit the new duration (such as goodberry)   If you are within 10ft of an oven, as a free action, you can initiate the process of baking bread, which will complete at the beginning of your next turn (6 seconds). Initiating the baking process consumes all required components, regardless if the bread is used.   Once the bread is done baking, an action (or bonus action or reaction if applicable) may be used to take the bread out of the oven and use it. (Please remember that only one bonus action may be used per turn.)   At levels 5, 11, and 17, an additional oven can be summoned at a time   Essential Recipes These recipes are always available for baking.   Rock Thrown weapon, can use dex or str, 1d6 + str/dex bludgeoning damage. 60/120 ft.   Flaming hot bread Thrown weapon, can use dex or str, 1d6 + str/dex fire damage. 60/120 ft.   Rations Does not expire. Costs 1 cp worth of materials to bake. provides the equivalent of one ration to the individual who consumes it.   Inspiring Grain Does not expire for 1 hour. Only three can be fully baked at a time. A creature can consume the bread to be under the effects of the guidance cantrip. Once before the spell ends, the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled to one ability check of its choice. It can roll the die before or after making the ability check. The spell then ends. Spell lasts for up to 1 minute.   Hearty Meals Starting at 2nd level, bread rations consumed during a rest provide healing equal to that of one hit dice. Hit dice given increases by 1 at levels 9 and 18.   Meal Prep Starting 3rd level, at the end of a long rest, you are able to prepare a loaf of bread that will not expire for 1 day, or until the next long rest (whichever comes first). This ability allows you to prepare spells from your spell list, and they may be cast without spending a spell slot. The level of the prepped spell can be found on the baker table.   You start with only one prepared meal, but this number increases by one at levels 7 and 13   While it's Hot At 5th level, you have mastered the technique of serving your bread before it starts to cool. Using your action to use bread from your arcane ovens allows you to repeat this action with other ovens during the same action. Only one leveled spell may be cast during the same turn in this manner.   Natural Preservatives At 6th level, Bread stored within an arcane oven will never expire. All other restrictions to the bread and spellcasting still apply.   Hell's Kitchen At level 14, as a bonus action, you can command one of your ovens to release a 60ft line of flame in the direction of your choosing. All targets within this line must make a DEX saving throw or take 5d6 fire damage, taking half as much on a success. This oven cannot be used again until the beginning of your next turn.   Grain Surge At 20th level, you can choose at the beginning of your turn to triple the output of essential recipes from your ovens.

Starting Equipment

You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background

• (a) a quarterstaff or (b) club
• (a) an explorer's pack or (b) diplomat's pack
• Cooking utensils, component pouch, recipe book, and a bread knife (dagger)

Spellcasting

By imbuing your bread with exotic ingredients, you have learned to harness the power of the arcane with your baking. Your spellcasting ability is wisdom.   Verbal and somatic components are replaced by the distinct process of making bread. Beneficial spells such as bless must be consumed by the target (thus requiring a free hand). Damaging spells originate from the impact point of the bread. All spells now have a range of 60 ft, regardless of their original casting range. Concentration is still required for applicable spells.   At 1st level, you know two 1st-level spells of your choice from the baker spell list. The Spells Known column of the Baker table shows when you learn more baker spells of your choice of 1st level or higher. A spell you choose must be of a level no higher than what's shown in the table's Slot Level column for your level. When you reach 6th level, for example, you learn a new baker spell, which can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level. Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the baker spells you know and replace it with another spell from the baker spell list, which also must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
