Acid Blood. When reduced to zero hit points, the grendelspawn explodes in a gurgling mess of gore and acid. Creatures in melee with the grendelspawn must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, take 35 (8d8) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.   Corrosive Blood. A creature that pierces the grendelspawn with a weapon made of metal or wood corrodes. After dealing damage, the weapon takes a permanent and cumulative −1 penalty to damage rolls. If its penalty drops to −5, the weapon is destroyed. Ammunition made of metal or wood that pierces the grendelspawn is destroyed after dealing damage. Magical items get a saving throw to resist this effect.  They must roll 10 or more with advantage to avoid taking the penalty.   Keen Sight. Grendelspawn gains advantage to Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.   Keen Smell. Grendelspawn have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.   Rage. When a grendelspawn takes damage in combat, it flies into a berserk rage at the start of its next turn, clawing and biting madly until either it or its opponent is dead. An enraged grendalspawn gains advantage on attack rolls while attackers gain advantage attacking it. It also fights for one more round after being reduced to 0 hit points.   Spider Climb. The grendelspawn can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Actions

Multiattack. The grendelspawn makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws. It may use acid spit in place of its bite attack.   Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: 1d20+8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 ( 3d6+5 ) piercing damage.   Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: 1d20+8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 ( 2d6+5 ) slashing damage.   Acid Spit. Ranged Weapon Attack: 1d20+8 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 6 ( 1d12 ) acid damage.

Reactions

Nimble. The grendelspawn adds 3 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the grendelspawn must see the attacker.

Eviscerators tend to travel in small packs with hunters. Though only marginally intelligent, they often display the cunning common to many predators. As the hunter is small and nimble, the eviscerator is a heavily armoured brute.
The native species of the death world Burnscour, grendelspawn are fierce predators that make effective, if dangerous, guardians or trackers. Relentless hunters, they possess keen senses, razor-sharp teeth and claws, and the ability to spit acid. Two types of grendelspawn, hunters and queens, are currently catalogued in the Imperial Lexicanum. In time, further research may yield other subspecies of grendelspawn. Grendelspawn hunters, the most common kind, are vaguely reptilian quadrupeds the size of a human. They constantly salivate through their bared fangs. Grendelspawn queens are as large as an elephant. They have tentacles in addition to claws and teeth, but their bulk makes them much slower than the hunters.   Grendelspawn queens are always female. It is unknown how impregnation is accomplished; they do, however give birth to dozens of sexless hunters that grow to full maturity in six months. The sexless hunters instinctively protect the queen and, by extension, anything else around the queen’s location. They can be trained as easily as dogs can, but no amount of training will override their imperative to protect the queen. Grendelspawn hiss and growl but seem to have no language of their own.
