Polar Bear - Animal 5
RARENLARGEANIMALURSINE

Powerful, massive and majestic predators of the northern tundras, the polar bear, known as great white bears in Suranthi culture, are one of the most respected and dangerous predators on Durol. They are masters of ambush, almost impossible to detect when they wish to be, and have explosive power few other non magick beasts in the animal kingdom can match. They are masters of their domain, and are the only type of bear that are known to be obligate carnivores, much like the great cats of the world.

Special Abilities Armored Hide (5): +5 Natural Armor boost to Armor Score.   Aggressive: A polar bear that decides to attack a creature will usually not be easily driven off. No matter how bad the fight is going, the bear must attempt a DC 20 Will Save to decide to retreat or flee combat if it chooses to start a fight or is forced into one. This DC increases to 25 if it is a mother bear with cubs, or if it hasn't eaten in more than 4 days.   Ambush 1d6 : Polar Bears are masterful stealth and ambush hunters. Whenever they make an attack against an unaware, or surprised target, they add a roll of their Ambush dice to the damage.   Bulky: Add 1/2 Constitution Modifier to AC as a Deflection Bonus.   Increased Cold Adaptation: Polar Bears reduce effects of natural cold weather effects upon themselves by 2 steps.   Environmental Familiarity (Cold Tundra, and Aquatic): This creature is naturally very comfortable in tundra conditions and even in icy cold ocean waters along the coast. They never have any challenge with that terrain in its natural form. It cannot suffer any movement penalties from any natural effects of terrain within these biomes.   Low-light Vision: 30 feet of lowlight vision   Scent: 60 feet, any perception check where smell could reasonably apply, they get +2. This can count for initiative.   Strong Swimmer: Polar Bears are very gifted swimmers, able to traverse through polar seas between ice floes seeking seals to prey on. Their movement speed is also their swim speed.   Wintery Camoflogue: Despite their massive bulk, because of their white hued fur coat, polar bears are actually naturally terrifyingly stealthy for their size amongst the natural ice and snow of their own biomes, gaining a +5 to Stealth checks in such biomes or weather conditions.   Gripping Claws: When it hits with a claw attack it can immediately sacrifice its reaction to attempt to initiate a Grab upon the target, that ignores any stacking Multiple Attack Penalty.   Mauler: A polar bear gains a +3 circumstance boost to attack and damage rolls against creatures it has grabbed. This is not included in its attack calculations on this sheet.   Vengeful Beast: Polar Bears have been known to have long memories and hold a grudge. They will take a special interest in any creature that injuries them or were to take out a cub or somehow force them off a kill, and will stalk and hunt that creature in particular, even in lieu of easier prey, for potentially several days.   Wide Aggro Range: Polar Bears are obligate carnivores and masters of biomes that are essentially food deserts. They do this in part because they let no potential meal move through their territory unaccounted for or unnoticed, even if not on the hunt. Their sense of smell is so sharp they can pinpoint directions and distance of other animals, out to some 5 kilometers, or just about 2 miles. This includes humanoids, as they are smaller than the bear and made of flesh and bone and therefore are on the menu. Polar bears can and will follow these smells, and will track and stalk prey over that distance.

Advancements/Alteration Options

Trackless Traveler (Arctic): Some polar bears are so adept at moving through pack ice and snow in their arctic and tundra environments that they don't even leave trace of their presence.
