You expend hit dice equal to the spell slot used and roll the same number of dice adding your spellcasting ability modifier to the result and regaining that amount of hit points. The spell has no effect if you have already expanded your hit dice

At higher levels: You increase the number of hit dice you can spend by one for every spell slot used above 1st.
