Meihomei's Own Lifeguards and Medics

"Attention, you lowlives! I will not repeat myself, I don't need to tell you what this ceremony to honour the late Electrum-for-life Marhamat Dandelion, Valour-keeper of Kagomei, Order of Emerald, Thrice-Meritant of Honour, Electrum of Meihomei's Life Guards with distinction, Stark of Garay east Sixth Ring, means for this unit, do I?" Tadros Dandelion used his gruffest voice, trying to hide his own uncertainty. He pretented not to notice how many of the troops were crying, he... hadn't felt like this in a long time. He understood their trepidation, a legend died to that Slate Plague, damn it. He also lost a cousin, damn it.

"Attention, to the flag!"

"Honours to you cousin Telbun!" That was Amarat, who used the ceremonial cousin, but who could have meant third cousin, thrice removed, literally.

"Valour-keeper, we salute the honour you keep in trust!" Half the troops took a knee. "We have come to accompany you as you lay him to rest."

"Is that everyone?"

"I am here, Amarat Jr Veneer, I have come to honour the revered dead."

"Meihomei."

"I am also here, Amarat."

"Nameihomei, mother, welcome."

"Now we could go, if we had permission..."

"I am here, CI-12 Kagomine Secretary of Defense Maëlle Comma interjected, I grant you all leave to go, together, I grant leave for all the forces of Meihomei's Third Fleet permission to deploy fully to secure this solemn occasion."

Flora Rolli hated that she had drew the short straw for Flag Bridge on Fifth Fleet, and be off-duty for the funeral. She felt having nothing to do was only going to give her an occasion to cry. That Amarat was for all intents Master of Ceremonies for the whole thing just made it worse. Hmm, damn, he looks good in that uniform... she thought to herself, but then, he had put on ALL the bling. She knew Meihomei, his mother and himself would be referred by their FULL titles, which happened only for the most formal of events.

"I, Amalthéa Analecta Alessirina Shalami Melissama Fukurina Kagomé, Meihomei of Kagomei, Arch-Domei of Innu, Domei of Ingred, Master of the Order of Kagomei, Master of the Order of Smertuit, Defender of the Rising Sun, Founder and First Signer of the Treaty of Lai Dang, Medal of the order of Hunarch Zwei, bear witness to the passing of Marhamat Dandelion, Valour-keeper of Kagomei, I salute him, I had vowed to always salute him first, in honour of him saving my grandparents, my parents, my own life, and that of my adoptive sister, and I do not believe I lapsed in this self-imposed vow. My debt to him is utter, and could not conceivably be repaid. I stand for him, his honour leaves him unbound to any in Arnd."

"I Mikhala Vivienne Sonnelle Mikasha Solange Prithyanka Takahashi Dandelion Matsumoto Veneer. Nameihomei, Domei of Garay, Domei-actual of Innu , Feyd  of Simular, Stark  of Byzance, Stark of Wheelbro, Willow of Lilleath, Willow of Ingred, by the grace of the elements Aumhava of Garay, Mastarneir Benevento, Princess of the third rank of the Nisei, Lucair of Ferrare, Baroness of Czarny-Las, Baroness of Sottofumo-Tagliare, Baegjag Bu-In Naeh-inchon, by the grace of the Elements Second Duty and Eleventh of The Twenty-Five, stand for this man, he saved my grandparents, my adoptive grandparents, my adoptive parents, and my adoptive sister. I would see him unbowed in any company but the elements themselves."

"I Amarat Beltran Meltran Flinflon Nomintan Killidarvi Sporray Sottofumare Konigsee Stillbergen Ferrare Takahashi Dandelion Matsumoto Kagomei Veneer, Meritant of Honour, Feyd Veneer, Lanungmei of Kimaguré, Baron of Sporray, Baron of Konigsee, Count of Stillbergen, Namolec prime of Sottolanga, Loroni-warbaron of Utta-Utta, Prince of Ferrare, High Prince of Benevento, Valour-keeper of Kagomei-by-interim, Meritant of Honour, stand for my predecessor, let the record show that I saw everything he did was with utter professionalism, and that I would be glad to assume his task of keeping the rolls of honour and valour for all of Imperial Kagomei's Armed Services."

"Amarat Junior Veneer! Name yourself properly!"

"I didn't?"

"Amarat Junior Veneer, you named yourself Meritant, but not Star-Emerald Knight of Great Kagome, see that you don't earn yourself a title 118 by negligence! Let the record also show, I have struck from your titles any mention of Interim, you had been chosen by Marhamat himself as his possible successor, and he felt no reason to see your potential limited thusly."

Chastised, Amarat added: "He reminded everyone here, of the meaning of the unit's motto: 'Over my last breath, even under protest.' He will be missed."

"LGOF-07 Gold Shibué Dandelion, please lead the way."

"Lifeguards, this way, protect the principal, you there!". She pointed to Amarat. "We charge you with one of ours, he is misplaced, bring him where is he needed, while we attend to Meihomei."

"Aren't you forgetting something, Gold Dandelion?"

"Who are you?"

"He was one of mine you know.". The interloper said, on cue. "He and I shared a patient, and a friend, let him be buried, in the honours he has earned, and with one more, that of a blessed healer, for all the lives he has saved, for as LGOF-10 Meihomei's Care it is in my power to grant. Look alive, lifeguards. You may now evacuate the principal." And they did, all fifty troops, in twos and threes, surrounded Meihomei, and as the decesased had trained them to do, leaving no one behind, exfiltrated her to the troop transport, then to the armored gunskycutter.

And so Marhamat Dandelion... I won't repeat his list of honours here, was buried with a green drop(both the Arndan equivalent of a red cross and the staff of asclépios: it marks medical supplies as well as the medical professionals) on his chest, and none quite forgot who he was, or how many he saved.

His daughter Shibué took home his service award, a medal given to anyone who died on duty, in his case, a platinum-osmium disk 5 cm across, with 24 1/4ct emeralds, one for each year of service.  With it were the "embellishments", miniatures of all the other awards he had earned in his storied career.  The Star-Emerald Grade Order of Kagomei alone was composed of 20 1/2 ct emeralds, tied together with platinum in a dodecahedron.  The three Merits of Honour were represented by a 6 ct heart-shaped emerald, each.  The two dozen other awards were mostly in silver and gold, barely noticeable.  You could lose yourself in the shine of those emeralds, she'd tried it once.  Locking herself up in a room with just her own merit, not her father's and a tiny light source.  It was like the stars were in the room...

Shibué later joked if she hadn't a military escort with her, she'd not have felt safe going home with such riches.  Herself a meritant, she knew that while the service award was roughly on part with one year of her late father's salary, but the purest emerald used for the other awards would make her a very rich woman, if she only sold one for the few millions such a trifle would receive.

Composition

Manpower

Manpower

Before the fourth battle of Megamisama, the Table of Ordnance and Equipment for this unit was a quarter of a division.

After, it rose to three-quarters of a division(so 750 fighting soldiers, as Kagomine reckon them, plus sorcerers and priests, who would fill NCO/specialist ranks in an Earth Unit, except a Sorcerer or Priest can be an officer, and "not count" as a NCO, if that's the case)

Equipment

Equipment

All uniforms are formal, "dress" whites, as unit is considered a parade/ceremonial unit. Unit is assigned a special badge(red parrot) as a special sign that they are in the personal service of Meihomei.

This extends to the unit flag, who is always dual, two flags, one, the red parrot, Meihomei's personal military flag, as commander-in-chief, added to the unit flag, here described in heraldic terms:
Gules a Moniqan dragon sarcelle in full, per pale argent.

Weaponry

Weaponry
  • All unit members carry ceremonial swords: hand and a half curved sabres, with straight hilts over quillons.
  • All unit members carry high-calibre pistols, 10mm Blegian Fabrique Nationale special law enforcement
  • Each squad has a heavy weapons support squad, four armors carrying heavy pilder armor with 12mm automatic dual personal protection weapons in each arm, capable of 360rounds/s fire
  • Vehicles

    Vehicles
  • Five Cheetah Gunskycutter are permanently assigned to the unit.
  • Any Cormorant-class Airborne Early Warning Skycutter within Kagomine airspace is automatically required to accept priority taskings (special orders) regarding the flights of the Gunskycutters(as they are presumed to include the head of state/commander in chief). Since they're part of the parent unit, friction is minimal.
  • Riot patrol duty in Megamisama is handled by 25 KLS-14 Bulette Gundlandship APC, 8 of which switched their 30mm cannon for water projectors, and all of which replaced their automated grenade launchers loadouts for non-lethal ordnance. Each landship can carry 20 soldiers, but not all of this capacity is fully loaded out, or currently required.
  • 32 Guardian Pilder Suit
  • 80 Opportunity pilder suit complement the roster.
  • Structure

    Unit
The unit is lead by the Regim of Meihomei's Lifeguard, a lifelong position, and technically includes a de facto shadow posting for LGOF-10 Meihomei's Care, who is answerable to Meihomei is emegencies, even if she is closer to a Minister of Health, acting independantly. This position is considered the * of a command triad, distinct from † and ‡, respectively dagger, and double-dagger, in general dagger marks the XO of a troupe, while the double dagger is the third officer, while the star is usually the senior priest, priestess or sorceror.

    Tactics

    Unit
This unit is a personal bodyguard, acting as escort for "the principal" or principals(such as when the heir is a small child). Tactics focus on preservation of life and safety of that principal, and extend to allies/non-combatants where practical.

    Training

    Training
This unit is considered a crack unit, where fully 250 of the unspecialized soldiers are sent for cross-unit training, either for special ops, body guard, or any other "elite" duty. As they are seriously famous and have first pick of any sorcerous troops, they draw the serious heavy hitters, and when rubbing elbows with famous units from other nations, it's often mentioned how intimidating the magic potential of the unit can be. The Pilder troops, who rely on latent magical talent, are kept secret, and have not been shared. The suits themselves are shared, but the requirements to use them are secret, and Kagomei negotiators adopt a facade of amused bemusement when this is mentioned.

    Logistics

    Logistical Support

The formation includes most of its own logistical support, having access to gunskycutters(military-grade assault helicopters)

    History

Historically founded as Acapella Jaesa Carson Kagomé Dandelion Matsumoto Takahashi's own priestly guards, the temple guards quickly became known as Turquoise Jays, both to tell them from her counterpart Innu Yesugai's Emerald Sloths and Drab Bruins, as well as their rivals the Slate Otters and Rainbow Peacocks. This force was formidable in combat, but was much better known for their medical proficiency, curing any and all forms of disease, injury or toxin they knew of and knew a cure for, often for no cost to the patient. In 215AK, during the Matsumoto Reformation, many senior officers of all four 'animal named' groups were granted powers of tribunal, and their respective services reorganized:
  • Slate Otters
  • Drab Bruins
  • Were recognized as Armed Forces, respectively the standing Navy and the standing Army of Kagomei.
  • Emerald Sloths
  • Turquoise Jays
  • Were recognized as Armed Services, of which the Armed Forces were a subgroup, both groups allowed to carry weapons, but Armed Forces allowed to carry heavier weapons, in exchange for not being legally allowed to carry them in any place associated with the civil government, except at the latter's request. Armed Services were recognized the right to form investigative branches, for the purpose of enforcing Kagomei's newly reformed laws, as well as international law, where applicable, as well as tariffs. The Sloths took the international role, the Jays the local, internal role.
  • Rainbow Peacocks
  • Were reorganized into the Kagomine Civil Service, broken out into State Department, Interior Department, and a host of other services and departments, but who all had in common that they could not go about their business armed, but could require the assistance of Armed Servicepeople who were. In extreme circumstances, they could even require Armed Forces assistance, but that was subject to judicial review.
