Star Sailor

With the rise of interplanetary, if not interstellar travel, exploration and the means of travel had changed for Sailors as well. The next generation of Sailors evolved from the roughneck, backbreaking work of the high seas into roughneck, backbreaking work among the distant stars. This new generation, these Star Sailors, as a whole are troubleshooting mechanics that rely on good instincts and mostly practical knowledge. Though many are no strangers to combat in dealing with both friendly and unfriendly Pirates or Marines alike, they are more at home and adept at in working in zero-gravity (0-G) environments and have enough "need-to-know" magical expertise to keep everything on board operating as it should. By their nature they stand oppose to the arcana adept engineers and artificers that designed and created the Starships they serve and work on. As such typical Star Sailors don't draft and define all the ins and outs of the esoteric magicks these "grand pinnacles of alchemy and artifice" run on, or the "structural spirit and elegant design" of the Starships themselves. They just make sure everything stays in working order and that their passengers and goods on board arrive at their destinations alive and unspoiled.

Feat: Starship's Passage

When you need to, you can secure free passage on a Starship for yourself and your adventuring companions. You might travel on the Starship you served on, or another Starship you have good relations with (perhaps one captained by a former crewmate). Because you're calling in a favor, you can't be certain of a schedule or route that will meet your every need. Your DM will determine how long it takes to get where you need to go. In return for your free passage, you and your companions are expected to assist the crew during the voyage.

Suggested Characteristics

Star Sailors, like their waterborne counterparts, can be a rough lot, but the responsibilities of life on a ship make them generally reliable as well. Life aboard a ship shapes their outlook and forms their most important attachments. Use the tables for the Sailor background as the basis for your traits and motivations, modifying the entries when appropriate to suit your identity.
