There are two aspects to this spell, the creation of the rift and using the rift. In order to create a rift, one must spend two hours focusing on opening the rift by dissolving time and space itself. A rift will start out 5ft in diameter, but rifts may increase by 5ft per additional hour of concentration at initial casting (max 20ft).
Duration of the rift depends on size & caster level. The caster's level determines how long the initial duration lasts at minimum size, while adding addition size adds additional time to the rift. See chart for details. Rifts may become permanent via the permanency spell. Greater Dispel Magic can remove the permanency, but the rift will be destroyed. Rifts cannot be combined to make a larger rift (i.e., putting two 20ft rifts next to each other will not make a 40ft rift).
Connecting one rift to another requires specific knowledge of a rift in a specific area (i.e. would have to know continent, country, town/major, and building [if applicable]) area that the second rift would be located in. Connecting rifts is one standard action. Teleportation is instantaneous in one direction only. Connections can be switched via one standard action. If a rift is not connected before being entered or an attempt to connect has failed, the person or creature that enters will be cast into the astral plane and the rift behind them will be destroyed.
Only sentient creatures (all living beings with at least 1 INT) can travel through the portal.
